Crafts for Kids
Crafts and kids
have always gone hand in hand because far past being fun they are a great educational tool that allows children to actively work hard on a project with tangible results. Whether you are simply looking for a rainy day activity that will keep the kids happy or something to supplement a class lesson or bible school activity with, crafts are an excellent way to foster creativity in young children while teaching them that hard work and determination can lead to the creation of something that they can cherish and keep.
Depending on the learning level and age of your children there are a number of different crafts that allow children to express themselves while also learning how to embrace their artistic side.
Crafts can easily be used to teach children about letters, animals, science, and the world around them by allowing them to create something unique. For instance, young children may be satisfied with simply playing with crayons, paper, putty, stickers, and play dough while children that are a bit older at age eight and nine may enjoy creating jewellery with beads, scrapbooking, tie-dying clothes or creating their own doll clothes.
Contrary to what many people think, crafts are not just for girls either as there are many crafts that are aimed at sparking the interest of young boys as well along with plenty of crafts that are great for both genders. For instance, older girls may enjoy creating a quilt with the aid of their mother or grandmother while older boys may enjoy chemistry sets that allow them to create new materials. Rocket kits, model kits, and other science crafts such as building an outdoor animal feeder are also excellent ideas for both girls and boys who are not interested in the more traditional crafts.
Children around the age of six onwards may also enjoy creating their own puppets with the use of various craft supplies and old socks. Simple glue and a craft box is all they need In order to create their own puppets along with some occasional aid from an adult if an item is simply not turning out the way they want. The perk of this craft is that not only do they get to produce their own puppet, but they also can use it to create their own puppet show by working together which leads to an entire afternoon full of imagination and fun.
Gardening crafts are also an excellent choice for adults who hope to teach their children to be environmentally responsible by showing them early that planting flowers and fruits can be a lot of fun. Allowing children to paint flowerpots or decorate foam pots and then plant their own seeds inside offers you the chance to create something that they can continue to nurture until it blossoms revealing a treat at the end of the project. Easy to create and fun to monitor day by day gardening crafts are always a great choice for daily fun measured in with a small dose of responsibility.
